This article was scraped from Rochester Subway. This is a blog about Rochester history and urbanism has not been published since 2017. The current owners are now publishing link spam which made me want to preserve this history.. The original article was published May 21, 2016 and can be found here.
From local development to just plain news of the weird, here are your RocLinks for this past week...
Send More Coffee
After a long and sordid affair,
Ugly Duck Coffee has finally made the leap
to brick and mortar. Go visit them in the former Little Bakery location, then get a breakfast sandwich from Hart's. I'll try not to slobber on my keyboard too much in the meantime.
Ongoing
Remember that little I-Square blowup? We talked about it previously. Well it's still blowing up.
I'm a bit surprised, considering there are far larger projects that have appeared far more corrupt *cough* fast ferry
*cough* that have had far less fallout. Go figure.
Do Something
After dragging its heals for 5 years now, UofR has decided to beg the city
for another 3-5 years to do something at Block F. Apparently all of Rochester's developers are too busy right now (despite all submitting for the new Inner Loop land). I must say that my college experience there would have been much easier if I could have used this same argument while in school. "But Professor, I waited until the last minute to write my paper, and then the library was full! Can I have a few more weeks?" Oh, and apparently there's not enough parking in this part of town anymore. Really?
(and yes that's Block F on the right).
Excellent Timing
To coincide with cocktail revival week (surely), Gov. Cuomo announced a plan
to allow liquor sales before noon on Sunday. I've only seen that this was announced at a 'Rochester brewery,' so if anyone knows which one, do please comment.
Be Literate
And finally, the Central Library has received a nice visual upgrade.
The use of word art on a library is clever, to say the least. Be sure to go check it out, and maybe eat your lunch outside while you're at it. * * *
