Rochester's RKO Palace Theater and the $10,000,000 Twin Towers

This article was scraped from Rochester Subway. This is a blog about Rochester history and urbanism has not been published since 2017. The current owners are now publishing link spam which made me want to preserve this history.. The original article was published January 04, 2013 and can be found here.

Russ Shaner, president of the Rochester Theater Organ Society has dug up another incredible photo of Rochester's RKO Palace Theater...

This color photo    shows the theater's front entrance in September 1965. A sign has just been hung on the theater's marquee proclaiming this the new site of a $10,000,000 "Twin Towers" project. As      The Rochesterian

had earlier quoted from an old RTOS brochure:    On its site will be erected a modern motel-office-theatre complex with twin eighteen story towers. The new 1200-seat theatre will be in the luxury class with the latest projection and sound equipment plus roomy seats that offer patrons "living room comfort."

Of course the Palace Theater was demolished, but no $10 Million project ever materialized. Promises, promises.
