Here's some exciting news... Trolleys will be returning to Rochester's streets this summer! Though not the electric kind. Philip Szal will be starting Rochester Pedal Tours, a pedal powered trolley that guests can take around downtown as a way to bounce between their favorite restaurants and bars...
Szal has been operating another one of these pedal trolley thingies in Buffalo since the fall of 2014 and it's been a great success. They just completed their 150th tour.
In an email Szal tells RocSubway, "You are like the queen of England when you ride thru the streets on the pub crawler with everyone taking photos, cheering, honking, high 5ing everyone on board... I can't wait to see the faces on car drivers when they see this for the first time."
The pedal powered trolley rolls through the streets at about 5 mph. You can bring your own food, play your own music off the Bluetooth speakers and customize your own party. Rochester Pedal Tours will work with the local bars to offer specials and expedited service with your pedal tour stamps.
In addition to pub crawls, Buffalo Pedal Tours
also offers architecture tours and progressive dinners (go to 3 different restaurants and have a different course and cocktail at each).
Rochester Pedal Tours will focus on the Park Ave, East and Alexander area initially. Guests will meet at a set spot and from there they pick the bars and restaurants they want to go to. That set spot is still TBD, but Szal says that will be the easy part - after all what bar wouldn't want 5 groups of 15 people pedaling over for drinks before and after each tour.
The trolley rents by the hour and they slot for 2 hour increments (or about 3 bars/pubs each). For more info, I'm sure something will pop up at RochesterPedalTours.com
very soon. * * *
