It's A Bit Lonely Down Here... The Rochester Subway on Facebook

This article was scraped from Rochester Subway. This is a blog about Rochester history and urbanism has not been published since 2017. The current owners are now publishing link spam which made me want to preserve this history.. The original article was published January 15, 2009 and can be found here.

The Associated Rochester Subway Expeditioners are a group of unique individuals who have visited the abandoned Rochester Subway.

Ever wonder what kind of person it takes to squeeze through a mangled chain-link fence and slither down into the dark, cold, urine-soaked caverns of a an abandoned subway tunnel  all for the sake of adventure and not much glory? Like many of lifes great mysteries, the answer may be found on     Facebook    .

They call themselves the     Associated Rochester Subway Expeditioneers    (ARSE ...heh heh). When I first stumbled upon this group I was all giddy with childhood excitement. Heres a group worth joining I wrote on their     wall    .

And so I joined.

It saddens me to report were a lonely bunch. After 2 weeks theres not a single reply to my post and theres absolutely nothing happening on the groups discussion board. I admit Im not entirely sure what I was expecting. Perhaps wed all get together and swap stories about hidden subway chambers we had unearthed. Or maybe share a chuckle over being chased thru the tunnel by some hobo wed mistaken for being dead. There     are    a few neat photos of the subway along with one video (which I posted).

In the end, like the Buffalo Bills during the playoffs, Im bored.
There are just 6 of us Expeditioneers. The groups founder calls it elite. Maybe. I dont know.

UPDATE: RochesterSubway.com now has a Facebook Fan Page. My, how far we've come. Go ahead,     become a fan    !
