After a long snowy winter Rochesterians like to get outside and enjoy the milder weather. But when that blanket of snow is finally gone, an ugly layer of trash is often revealed (much of it put there by people like this guy). Don't stress. Do something about it!
This year, Rochester's Clean Sweep will be a one-day, city-wide event starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, May 3 at Frontier Field. In addition to a cleaner neighborhood, you'll also get a free t-shirt and breakfast, plus get to enjoy a Redwings game, hot dog, AND a drink. Get details after the jump...
"Clean Sweep has become a community tradition and I would like to thank the Rochester Red Wings for partnering with us to provide a fun, new incentive to reward the hard work put forth by all of our dedicated volunteers," said Mayor Warren. "All the credit for this initiative goes to the thousands of people who consistently demonstrate their pride Rochester each year by donating their time to maximize the beneficial impacts of Clean Sweep."
In addition to picking up litter and debris, volunteers will plant flowers, prune trees and perform other neighborhood beautification projects across the city. Tools are provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own. City crews will remove graffiti, clean City properties, repair sidewalks and fill potholes during Clean Sweep.
Clean Sweep is great for team-building exercises for neighborhood associations, church groups, school clubs, teams and civic organizations. Residents can also take advantage of Clean Sweep by raking their own yards and sidewalks and placing their bulk refuse at the curb.
Registrants will receive a Clean Sweep t-shirt, have a light breakfast, join or be assigned to a team, then board vans and buses to be shuttled to work sites throughout the city. Clean Sweepers will be returned to Frontier Field
by noon and be entitled to free admission to that day's 1:05 p.m. Red Wings game as well as a voucher for a hot dog and drink.
Parking is available at Kodak Office, Lot D, (or leave the car at home and plan your trip by transit
instead).
On-site registration will be available, but pre-registration is recommended. Groups and individuals may register at www.cityofrochester.gov/cleansweep
or by calling 311 (428-5990 from outside the city).
