A Sense of Place

A Sense of Place

On our last day of G-Fest, Vermont has shown us heat and humidity, placid golden sunsets (captured in the mind but not in video), and, today, rain. A most particular rain.

I remember my first stays in Saint Louis where the sky opens with a ferocious intensity. Wet-in-a-second rain.

Not Vermont rain. Vermont rain is persistent and soft; it’s a rain where you’re not wet in a minute but will be soaked in an hour. Where the water will accumulate and drip from the tip of your nose as you hike.

A particular, wistful sense of place. Like the light in Sicily, it’s gauzy and soft and says, “you are here”.
